Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago was elected judge of the International Criminal Court by the Assembly of States Parties at elections held Monday, December 12, 2011 at the United Nations, New York.
She is the first woman, first Filipino and the first Asian from a developing state to serve as ICC judge, thus earning a place of honor for the Philippines in ICC history.
